History

On behalf of Eugene Beckman & Sons, I would like to welcome you to our website. While you are here, feel free to browse around and see what we have to offer.

Eugene Beckman began our business in 1925 in Glenham, SD. Glenham is approximately eight miles east of Mobridge.

In 1938, Eugene Beckman Implement came to Brookings, SD. The dealership was located on the west side of the alley on Front Street.

In 1946, Eugene Beckman & Sons moved into a new building located at 416 3rd Street in downtown Brookings. The building still stands today, and is the current location for Central Business Supply.

Eugene Beckman was joined by his son Lloyd in 1949. Together they ran the family business until 1968 when Eugene passed away.

In 1976, Lloyd Beckman purchased land on the Hwy. 14 bypass along the I-29 exit and constructed the current Brookings store. This was part of the Ag Plaza concept developed by the Brookings Area Dealers that put five agriculture equipment dealerships in one location. This bold move made Brookings one of the first farm equipment shopping centers in the state.

In July of 1986, Terry Jacobson joined Eugene Beckman & Sons in the Sales Department. Jacobson started in the implement business in 1977 as an International Harvester Dealer. IH merged with Case in the mid 1980’s. Due to changing economic conditions, Jacobson closed his dealership in January 1986.

Terry, along with his wife Colleen, purchased Eugene Beckman & Sons from Lloyd in December 1991. December 1, 1998, Jacobson purchased the John Deere dealership in Garretson, SD, from Mark and Deb LaCross.

Many things have changed since our business began in 1925. But one thing has remained the same and that is our commitment to provide our customers with the very best machinery, parts and service that Eugene Beckman & Sons has provided for over 80 years. We have over 40 full time professional employees who are dedicated to doing just that.
